Halloween is indeed FUN!
To celebrate this “spooktacular” event of the month, our group decided to add a little Halloween spirit to our next adventure. Hiking in this season is pretty much perfect: the air is crisp, the temperature is cool, the blooming of grasses and trees, the lush green and golden ricefields offer spectacular views.
The town of Miagao in Iloilo is one of the historic places known worldwide for its unique and ornate religious structure. The artistic traditions of its people were strongly influenced by the Spanish culture and the result is excellent.
Aside from it religious structure- the famous Miagao Church, watchtowers and architectural bridges, the place is also home to several natural tourist wonders.
The beauty of nature is very distinct especially to the upland barangays with beautiful landscapes, stunning mountains, lush green rice terraces, mysterious caves, serene waterfalls and a mystical lake. These miracle of nature are among of the most extraordinary natural attractions to visit Miagao, Iloilo.
We have rounded up some of the “spookiest” hiking spots in Iloilo and we plotted this activity as Halloween Hike to Tinagong Dagat Miagao, Iloilo. To signify the spirit of Halloween, our group decided to wear a Halloween costume for the entire course of our hike. A group of mountain-seeking zombies and hokage ninjas teamed up together for a Trick or Treat by bringing some candies, toys and the like to the locals and to the kids along the way.
Getting there requires a long trek. Our jump off point is Brgy. La Consolacion around 30 minutes hike to Brgy. Tigmalapad for the login/logout protocol plus the additional 2 hours hike to Tinagong Dagat.
How do I look as a mountain-seeking zombie?
Humans are not the only ones who enjoy hiking and backpacking, we hiker-zombies enjoy the outdoors too.
We resumed our non-stop uphill trek to Brgy. Ongyod where the Tinagong Dagat is situated for like 2 hours.
To summarize our travel time, we took 4 hours to get to the area including our jeepney ride from Iloilo City to the town of Miagao.
We have our tent so we spent our night in the area to experience the night life in the jungle and of course to see the magnificent view of the landscape the following day. The view was really amazing. The peak is the getaway to those who want to see the view of Panay region including the Negros Island.
Danao sa Miagao or locally known as Tinagong Dagat is a hidden lake situated in the mountainous and forested area of Barangay Ongyod. This mysterious lake is elevated approximately 3000 ft. above the sea level which is said to be ten times bigger than an ordinary swimming pool.
Tinagong Dagat is one of the most visited attractions of the municipality. Aside from this mysterious hidden lake, there are a lot of natural attractions the town could offer to the tourists including the Miagao Rice Terraces, the Sinuhutan Cave in Barangay Onop, Bato Labog in Barangay Olango, and the Buslugan Falls in Barangay Dalije.
The local government of Miagao is actively promoting its upland sceneries. They are giving priority to the development of local tours, natural attractions and routes. It is a brilliant way to preserve the culture of the place, their folklore, historical structures and natural bounties.
I considered this place a most-sought travel destination not only for its natural wonders, seascapes but also the hospitable warm people in the locality.
Below is the over-looking summit view of the most-sought mountain in Panay, the Mt. Napulak in Igbaras, Iloilo from the Tinagong Dagat peak.
If you want extraordinary memories, Go and experience Miagao!
